Final closures for Sleaford Rugby Club junction

A three phase plan over September will complete the works on the A17/A153 junction at Sleaford Rugby Club.

The works will add new slip lanes and traffic lights to the junction, expected to finish in early October.

A series of overnight road closures will start on Monday, September 7 and are expected to last up to four weeks, Monday to Friday.

The plan for the works and diversion routes in place will be:

  • Phase 1 – A17 entry and exit slip roads (up to five nights starting from Monday, September 7)
Diversion route via A17 Holdingham roundabout to Kirkby La Thorpe, and vice versa
  • Phase 2 – A153 north of the A17 junction (up to six nights)
Diversion route via A15 north / B1181 Scopwick / B1188 Ruskington, and vice versa
  • Phase 3 – A153 south of the A17 junction (up to seven nights)
Diversion route via A15 north / B1181 Scopwick / B1188 Ruskington, and vice versa

Karren Cassar, assistant director for highways at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Our works to improve the A17/A153 junction near Sleaford Rugby Club are continuing to go well, and we’re now just over a month away from completing this important improvement scheme.

“Before we finish, we’ll be completely rebuilding the A17 slip roads and the A153 near the rugby club junction. However, the roads need to be closed while we carry out these works.

“To minimise disruption to people traveling in and around Sleaford, we’ll only be closing the roads overnight and in phases while we reconstruct the roads here.”

Following on from these works, £8.25 million improvements to Holdingham roundabout will start in early 2021.

This will see additional lanes added to each approach of the roundabout, as well as the installation of traffic lights at some approaches.
