Axe robber leaves Louth shop empty handed

A man allegedly threatened staff with an axe and demanded money during an armed robbery in Louth.

The man entered the Premier Express Store in Newmarket, Louth between 9am and 9.20am on Sunday, May 31.

After threatening staff with an axe and demanding cash, the man is said to have been challenged by employees.

He then fled the scene empty handed in a red Fiat Punto and there was another man in the car, police said.

Lincolnshire Police later confirmed that Gary Cartwright, 44, of Northgate, had been arrested and charged with attempted robbery. He was remanded in custody and will appear at Lincoln Magistrates Court on Monday, June 1.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area at around the time of the incident.
