Royal recognition for Lincolnshire flood hero

A Lincolnshire man who helped his community through last year’s flooding has been recognised by the royal family for his work.

Matt Coley gave up many hours to fill and distribute sandbags in his local area in Wainfleet, which was devastated by floods last summer.

The local community filled 180,000 sandbags and installed flood defences around important assets, such as pumping stations, to keep them operational.

Every year, the Queen welcomes over 30,000 guests to Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. However, this year’s plans have been affected by the current coronavirus pandemic.

Nearly 50 people had been invited to Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace especially to recognise their role in supporting their communities during the floods, including Matt.
