Confirmed coronavirus cases at Grantham care home

A care home in Grantham has confirmed it is dealing with confirmed cases of coronavirus, but said its staff are implementing infection control.

Barchester Healthcare runs Newton House Care Home on Barrowby Road in Grantham. It confirmed the positive tests results for COVID-19 at the home and that staff have been supplied with the appropriate personal protect equipment.

Barchester Healthcare confirmed on Thursday afternoon that there were two positive coronavirus cases and that the home is still open.

It said due to the respect for privacy of individual cases it cannot comment on how individuals are being treated or who they are.

However, it did confirm that any resident in the home that has tested positive or that is presenting with symptoms of COVID-19, is being managed in line with PHE guidance in relation to isolation and barrier nursing.

According to the Grantham Journal it is understood one of the residents is in end-of-life care, but this has not been confirmed. Two members of staff are also believed to be in self-isolation.

Barchester Healthcare said in an earlier statement: “We can confirm that we have had positive test results for COVID-19.

“We are confident in the processes in our home with all of our staff trained in infection control, and our staff have been brilliant in implementing this.

“We are following medical advice and are being supplied with the appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE).

“Please be reassured that our staff are trained in this practice, and we are confident that the right procedures will be followed to keep everyone as safe and well as possible.”
