Broken down train blocks line in Spalding

A broken down train near Peterborough is affecting services in Lincolnshire on Monday afternoon and could cause hours of disruption.

East Midlands Railway issued a statement regarding delays to services between Peterborough and Spalding.

The line is currently blocked between the two places and is disrupting trains on East Midlands Railway’s Peterborough-Lincoln-Doncaster route.

It said shortly after 4.30pm that Network Rail are on site attempting to move the train, which is expected to be moved in the next 20 minutes.

East Midlands Railway said: “At present Network Rail are going to move the train. They are currently arranging for another train to get to the site so the broken down train can be moved.

“Trains running through the area in both directions cannot run between Peterborough and Spalding.

“At present we are expecting the problem to be fixed in the next 2 hours. As soon as the problem is fixed our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We do not currently have an estimate as to when this will be.”

East Midlands Railway are currently looking at alternative arrangements to keep its customers on the move – click here for more information.
