Police have named and charged a 25-year-old man after a reported rape on Railway Street in Grimsby last year.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court this morning, Friday, January 17.

Detectives previously issued CCTV appeals in an attempt to identify the attacker.

The victim is said to have been raped as she walked home in the early hours.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Stu Miller said: “Since the initial report we have explored numerous lines of enquiry, including reviewing CCTV, house to house enquiries, consulting with the National Crime Agency and criminal profilers and working with Regional Scientific Support Services to explore all forensic opportunities available to us.

“Support for the victim is being maintained through our specialist officers and we continue to ensure she is kept up to date with the investigation and the action that we are taking.”
