Man in 70s had ‘medical episode’ before Stamford bar crash

This story is over

A man in his 70s “had a medical episode” before he crashed into a Stamford wine bar with revellers still inside.

The car went straight through the front window of Twelve All Saints in the town centre at around 8pm, as previously reported.

Lincolnshire Police have now said a woman who was in the bar at the time remains in hospital, but they do not believe her injuries are life-threatening.

Incredible response from the emergency services tonight. Thoughts going out to all involved and hoping everyone is ok.

The force also said: “The driver of the Peugeot 2008, a man in his 70s, received minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.

“We believe the driver may have had a medical episode. There have been no arrests.”

Bar owners told BBC Radio Lincolnshire two trapped women were freed by people in the bar who, together, lifted the car.

The owners of the wine bar said: “We would just like to thank everyone who was at the bar last night for an incredible response to an awful accident.

“Our thoughts lie solely with those injured and we wish everybody a speedy recovery. Also a huge thank you to the emergency services who attended.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue attended the crash and said: “A vehicle crashed into the side of a building.

“The crew made the scene safe and assisted paramedics with casualty care.”
