This story is over

A car crashed into a Stamford wine bar on Thursday night and injured some of the revellers inside.

Update: Lincolnshire Police said a man in his 70s “had a medical episode” before he crashed into the wine bar.

The car went straight through the front window of Twelve All Saints in the town centre at around 8pm.

According to reports, two people were trapped underneath the car following the crash. Bar owners told BBC Radio Lincolnshire the trapped women were freed by people in the bar who, together, lifted the car.

It is unclear at the time of writing just how many people were injured in total and the extent of their injuries.

It is not yet known if the driver of the car was injured.

The owners of the wine bar said: “We would just like to thank everyone who was at the bar last night for an incredible response to an awful accident.

“Our thoughts lie solely with those injured and we wish everybody a speedy recovery. Also a huge thank you to the emergency services who attended.

“We are closed today and will keep you updated when we know more.”

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue attended the crash and said: “A vehicle crashed into the side of a building.

“The crew made the scene safe and assisted paramedics with casualty care.”
