250 jobs at risk at Spalding food factory

Around 250 jobs at a fresh food factory in Spalding are at risk after.

Bakkavor Salads, which supplies major supermarkets including Aldi, the Co-op, Morrisons, M&S, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose, is proposing staff cut at its factory on West Marsh Road.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Bakkavor Salads is entering into a 45-day consultation period with 250 employees based at one of its factories at its Spalding site to propose a reduction in roles. We believe this reorganisation is necessary to ensure our factory remains sustainable for the future.

“If this proposal goes ahead, we will try to relocate employees wherever possible at local sites within the Bakkavor Group.

“We recognise this decision represents a difficult time for all the employees involved and this proposal is no reflection on their commitment and professionalism. Until the consultation process has been completed, we are unable to comment further.”

This latest news comes after it was announced in February that over 650 jobs were at risk at Bakkavor Freshcook Ltd in Holbeach St Marks.

After the completion of that consultation period, Bakkavor Group confirmed the closure of the Freshcook meals facility at Holbeach St Marks, which ceased to operate from April 29, 2019.

Bakkavor describes itself as the leading provider of fresh prepared food in the UK, with an international presence in the US and China. Bakkavor Group employs 19,000 people operating from 43 locations.
