£120m kitchen factory given green light in North Lincolnshire

A new £120 million Wren Kitchens factory will be built in North Lincolnshire after proposals were given the green light by the local authority.

The kitchen supplier tabled plans for a new facility behind its existing headquarters in Barton-upon-Humber, known as The Nest, in June this year.

Now, North Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee has given the go-ahead for the 910,000 sq ft factory at a meeting today.

Council leader Councillor Rob Waltham described the plan as a “vote of confidence” in the region.

Designs for the Wren Kitchen factory, which will be based behind the existing headquarters in Barton-Upon-Humber.

The facility is expected to create 525 new full-time jobs, with the potential for 1,285 roles when the factory is at full capacity.

Wren Kitchens currently employs 1,500 people at its headquarters, as well as a further 1,000 employees across Scunthorpe, Howden and Hull.

The new facility will operate 24 hours a day storing, manufacturing and distributing kitchens.

Jay Everett, planning consultant representing Wren Kitchens, said the development will help to create opportunities in the region.

“Wren are very committed to this investment in the district which will be the single biggest investment for Wren on any development,” he said.

“It will be a major boost to the economy and will bring a wealth of job opportunities.”

Councillor Waltham said the growth of the firm will be the “catalyst” for investment in the region.

“Wren’s expansion in Barton will provide a major boost to our local economy and bring more, highly skilled jobs to our employment market,” he said.

“Such a large private investment is a real vote of confidence in North Lincolnshire, and can often act as a catalyst for further investment elsewhere in our area.

Meanwhile, the firm is set to move into the vacant 7,500 sq ft unit left by Toys ‘R’ Us at the Gallagher Retail Park in Scunthorpe.

Following the collapse of the toy retailer in March 2018, Wren Kitchens announced plans to open a showroom on the site.

The company expected to open the store in December.
