Former England football legend coming to Lincolnshire

Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne is heading to Lincolnshire later this month to talk about his career at a charity event.

The event will take place in Barkston Heath near Grantham on Saturday, September 14 from 2.30pm-11pm. It has a large function room on the side of the main house that can hold up to 200 people.

The event will have a Q&A, buffet including outside bar, disco band, auction and raffle.

Around 100 tickets are still available priced at £50, with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer and Cancer Research UK. To buy a ticket, which will include more details about the location, email [email protected] or call event organiser Karl Dineen on 07767777078.

Karl, 46, from Lincoln has previously raised a lot for charities over the years including with boxers Ricky Hatton and Frank Bruno, Moto GP riders and more.

He told Lincolnshire Reporter: “The thinking behind the event is to raise money for Breast Cancer and Cancer Research.

“My wife was diagnosed with cancer in November 2017 and her dad has now been diagnosed, so it is a subject close to our heart. She is still receiving treatment, which is going well, and we are taking each day as it comes.

“Gazza also lost his dad to cancer last year so the issue is strong to his heart. We want to raise funds and also awareness about cancer.”

The event in Lincolnshire was put into doubt after news of Gazza’s split with his management company Kong Events, which saw others cancelled.

Karl confirmed after speaking with M and N Management, who now represent Gascoigne, the Lincolnshire event is definitely still going ahead.

He added: “He was an England midfielder, an arguably one of the best in the world, when I was growing up. He’s been through tough times, but he’s trying to battle his demons and change his life for the better, so it will be good to listen to what he has to say.”

After the event Gazza, who played five times for Boston United, will then stay at Thorpe Park Lodges near Lincoln.
