Distressed woman found on Cleethorpes beach after reported rape

A distressed woman was found on a Cleethorpes beach after a reported rape last week, which police are now investigating.

Humberside Police were called just after midnight on Thursday, August 22 to reports that a woman had been found on the beach near to the Central Promenade in Cleethorpes in a distressed state.

Officers were quickly in attendance to support her and the force said on Wednesday, August 28 that an investigation has now been launched.

It is believed to be an isolated incident, police said.

Police are keen to speak to four potential witnesses who were in the area at the time.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Chris Calvert said: “I want to trace any potential witnesses who were on and around Central Promenade in Cleethorpes earlier in the night who may have seen the woman walking in the direction of the pier.

“I know there were two cars parked on Central Promenade at the time of the alleged incident. One of the cars contained a man and woman who spoke with a CCTV operator who helped the woman. There was also a man and woman in another car nearby who were eating a McDonald’s meal.

“I want these witnesses to contact us as soon as possible as they may hold crucial evidence that could help. I would like to make it clear that they are not suspects.

“I also want to make it very clear that we are not linking this to any other ongoing investigation. I want to reassure the wider public that I believe this to be an isolated incident, and there have been extra police patrols in that area of Cleethorpes since.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log 14 of August 22. It can also be reported anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
