Lincolnshire Police’s Drones Unit simulated searches for a missing person as part of a training event.
The event on Wednesday, May 29 involved the East Midlands forces, the RNLI and the Coastguard. It took place off the A52 in between Leverton and Old Leake.
The aim of the day was to provide officers with a realistic yet safe environment to operate small unmanned systems beyond visual range.
Police drone pilots are only permitted to fly up to a maximum distance of 500m under normal conditions.
However, operators are permitted by the legislation to fly at extended distances under exceptional circumstances including reacting to life at risk or major incidents.
The training event was based on real world scenarios that police drone operators in Lincolnshire have been involved in.
During the first part of the event there was a land based search for live casualties simulating a missing person. Officers were required to work with officers from the Maritime Coastguard Agency to plan and search a designated area.
