College students and local people have aired anger and disgust after needles and drug-taking instruments were left in a pile outside Boston College.
The college has told reporters that the bus stop near the college was immediately cleared, adding that the perpetrators are not believed to be students or staff.
College student Joe Mansell took to social media to share images of the alarming discovery on the morning of Thursday, April 4.
The pictures, showing what appeared to be used needles lying across the floor of the bus stop, sparked shock from local people.
A Boston College spokesperson said: “We are aware that some needles were discovered early this morning in a bag at a bus stop near Boston College.
“These appeared overnight and we do not believe they were left there by any of our students or staff. Once discovered these were immediately cleared and disposed of in a sterile and safe manner.
“We have rigorous processes to ensure the safety of our students, staff and visitors at all times including CCTV, Duty Managers and 24 hour security patrols. We have a zero tolerance policy with regard to drugs use.”
