29-bed hotel plan for former Scunthorpe club

A former Conservative club in Scunthorpe could be turned into a 29-bed hotel, under new plans submitted to the local authority.

Proposals submitted to North Lincolnshire Council seek to change the use of the site on Doncaster Road in the town and include 37 car parking spaces.

Abid Wadi, who owns Medina Foods on Frodingham Road, lodged the plans, which form part of a reported £400,000 refurbishment.

The club shut back in January 2013 following rising debts.

A number of suggestions have been made for the use of the historic building since its closure.

First opened in 1935, the club incorporated the Campbells dance hall in the town and was a popular meeting place for teenagers in the 1950s and 60s.

The plans are expected to create eight jobs at the site, including two part time roles.

The authority will decide on the application at a later date.
