CCTV released in Grimsby rape case

A CCTV video has been released by police investigating an alleged rape in Grimsby earlier this month.

As previously reported, a woman was walking home shortly after midnight on Sunday, March 10 when she was approached from behind on Railway Street in Grimsby.

She was then reportedly raped by a man, described as around five foot eight inches tall of slim build who was wearing a dark jacket and jeans.

Two men were arrested in connection with the attack. Both were released on conditional bail whilst enquiries continue, police said.

Patrols in the area have been increased.

CCTV appeal

Detectives investigating the reported rape released CCTV of a man the force wishes to identify. It is believed the man may have information that could assist with the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Stu Miller said: “We are appealing for the man in this footage, or anyone who knows him, to get in touch as we believe that he may have information that could assist with our enquiries.

“I would also like to hear from anybody that has dashcam footage from driving down Freeman Street, Railway Street, Garibaldi Street or Albion Street between midnight and 1am on Sunday, March 10.

“The investigation into this report remains a priority for us and I have a dedicated team working tirelessly to find out exactly what happened that night.

“I appreciate the impact that a report of this nature can have on the local community and I want to reassure you that we have increased patrols in the area. I would encourage anyone with any concerns to speak to an officer who will be able to offer you advice to help you stay safe.

“Specialist teams are continuing to support the victim through this difficult time.”
