Police interview woman over war memorial damage

This story is over

A woman has been interviewed by the police after a war memorial was defaced in Horncastle.

Residents in the town, as previously reported, were furious when the words which looked like “shell” and “jane” were sprawled into the concrete.

Not long after pictures emerged of two women leaning down in front of the bench.

The memorial bench was installed recently to commemorate those who fought in the First World War.

Now a woman has been interviewed by officers while Lincolnshire Police continues to investigate the incident as criminal damage.

They have defaced the memorial.

The pictures of the women sparked calls for justice on the Horncastle Community Facebook page where people who believed they were responsible said they should “hang their heads in shame.”

Ben Louth wrote: “Vandalism is a family business in Horncastle then…always the poor teenagers that get the blame.”

“This is pretty unbelievable,” said Jo Carr. “No words express how sad this is for those who wish to remember those who gave their lives.”
