A filmmaker from North Lincolnshire is now stable and ‘slowly waking up’ after an accident left him in a critical condition in hospital in Spain.

As previously reported, Carl Whiteley, who is originally from Crowle in North Lincolnshire, reportedly suffered severe head injuries after falling from a first floor balcony of a flat in Palma’s old town last month.

It is believed he was then admitted to Majorca’s Son Espases Hospital where he was in an induced coma.

Carl’s sister Emma Whiteley issued an updated via a GoFundMe petition page on Friday, February 22 saying he is “stable and slowly waking up”.

She is planning to visit him next weekend. She is hoping do fundraisers and events to help raise more money for his hospital care.

Emma previously set up a GoFundMe page to help get the family out to Carl. It has now raised £5,020 of its £5,000 goal at the time of writing.

On the petition page Emma said: “Thank you everyone who has supported us in this incredibly hard time! Carl is stable and slowly waking up!

“He has a very long recovery a head of him! With him being in Mallorca he won’t get the help he needs unless it’s paid for (after hospital care).

“I will be looking into doing fundraisers and events just like he did to help him as much as I can! I plan to go back next weekend to be with him for a few days! I wish I could stay longer and visit more!”
