Family evicted from Grantham site after two years

Efforts to kick a family off a site in Grantham have forced the town’s waste recycling centre and an industrial park road to close today.

Lincolnshire Police earlier shut off Mowbeck Way, near the Grantham Household Waste Recycling Centre, to access the site with South Kesteven District Council and serve the eviction.

The council confirmed it has now evicted the family, who have been living on the land on Alexandra Road in caravans since 2016.

A spokesman for South Kesteven District Council said: “We have done all we can to resolve this situation but unfortunately have been unable to reach agreement with the family over their housing needs.

“Negotiations have been taking place since 2016 when they moved on to the land at Alexandra Road, which is owned by SKDC. We have remained in contact with the family throughout this process.

“The couple were last year joined by their daughter and family. An assortment of animals, including cats, dogs, chickens and horses, are also on the site.

“South Kesteven District Council has obtained possession of the land at Alexandra Road.

“Animals on the site have been allowed to remain. Access is available to their owners via a pedestrian footbridge to ensure their welfare.”

The move saw customers unable to access Grantham Household Waste Recycling Centre and a decision was made by Lincolnshire County Council to close the facility.
