An inquest has opened into the death of a 84 year-old woman from Spalding, who died in a crash on the A17 at Swineshead last month.
As previously reported, Mary Bernadette Blades was one of four injured in a crash involving a white Mercedes Benz lorry and a silver Citroen Xsara, which happened at around 12.15pm on Wednesday, August 29.
Mary, who was a passenger in the Citroen Xsara, was airlifted to Queens Medical Centre after the crash and she and another casualty suffered serious injuries, but she passed away on August 30.
A further two people were treated for minor injuries.
An inquest was opened during the afternoon of Monday, September 10 by SPG Fisher at Boston Coroners Court.
The court heard the Citroen Xsara was turning right off the A17 carriageway into ‘Ivy’ cafe when it was struck from behind by a Mercedes Benz 13T single axle HGV.
The case has been adjourned awaiting further police enquiries and a post-mortem will be carried out.
Mary’s family previously said in a tribute about her how they were “shocked and devastated” by the news.
Mary was married to Frank and the couple were looking forward to celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary in November.
A family member said: “We are all deeply shocked and devastated by this tragic accident.”
‘Bernie’ also leaves a son and daughter, two grandchildren and a three-week old great granddaughter.
