Stephen said: “Nobody was injured. I was helping to push a broken down car out of the roadworks when it caught fire next to Bannatyne Health Spa.

“An older lady driver was on her own and there were two of us assisting her when the flames appeared. Cars stopped suddenly blocking the roads.”

A spokesperson for Humberside Fire & Rescue said: “One car is well alight and we are asking for police due to it blocking Humberston Avenue by the roadworks in that area.”

A spokesperson for Humberside Police added: “It was non suspicious and accidental, the car started smoking and set alight. Recovery is still underway and there are traffic problems, so it is advised to avoid the area if possible as the road is still blocked.”
