A former teacher who sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl over 30 years ago has been jailed for three years.
Fred Edwards, 69, of Priory Drive in Fiskerton was found guilty of the offence, which happened in 1984 when he was a teacher at a Leicestershire school.
His young victim was taking part in a camping trip when she was abused while away from her tent.
Mr Edwards was found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison after a hearing at Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday, August 8.
He had denied one count of indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 14, but was found guilty following a trial.
He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Investigating officer at Leicester Police, Detective Constable Anna Blockley, said: “Edwards strongly denied that he had ever sexually abused his victim but thanks to her courage in coming forward, he is now facing three years in prison.
“There may be other victims of Edwards out there who have not yet come forward. If so, I would urge them to speak to police.”
