Two burglars leave trail of destruction after raids

Two burglars left behind a trail of destruction after carrying out a series of raids on a house, Lincoln Crown Court was told today.

Damian Zieba, 34, and Arkadiusz Arlak, 33, broke into the property on Spilsby Road, Boston and stole thousands of pounds worth of items.

The court heard how the pair trashed the house, leaving the owner devastated when she returned home.

Zieba, of no fixed address, was jailed for three years and four months after admitting burglary. He asked for a further offence of burglary in Boston to be taken into consideration.

Arlak, of Fydell Street, Boston, denied two charges of burglary but was found guilty following a trial in front of a jury and jailed for three years.

Judge Simon First, passing the sentence, told the pair: “When the owner went to the house, what she found was truly appalling.

“All of the rooms had been ransacked. Many items had been broken. There were cigarette burns and butts within the house and a large amount of property had been taken.”

Lincoln Crown Court was told that Zieba will appear before Westminster Magistrates Court to face extradition to Poland, after failing to comply with a previous suspended prison sentence.

Neil Sands, representing Zieba, said he was in a stable relationship and had plenty of work when he arrived in the country.

“But, the work dried up and his relationship fell apart. His income ceased to exist and he returned to his former behaviour.”

Gareth Gimson, representing Arlak, said: “He has always worked since coming to the UK. Initially it was on a temporary basis but more latterly on a permanent contract.”

A third defendant, Kataryzna Golik-Szpura, 55, of Fydell Street, Boston, was cleared by the jury.
