Positive Ofsted report for Skegness school

This story is over

Good quality of education and an innovative approach were highlighted among the successful areas in a Skegness school’s recent Ofsted report.

Skegness Junior Academy on Pelham Road was given a report rating of ‘Good’ last week with inspectors praising the work of the school, its principal Darren Price and its sponsor Greenwood Academies Trust.

The report also highlighted other successful areas at the school including pupils making progress higher than the national average in reading, writing, and mathematics from when they started at the academy.

Looking to the future, inspectors recommended that the school should give appropriate training to leaders to drive improvement in their area.

They also said the school needs to find a way to build standards in reading, writing and mathematics for the most able pupils.

Principal Darren Price said: “It is so rewarding to see our progress highlighted like this, and to know that the caring, happy and supportive learning environment we provide for our pupils is recognised.

“The Ofsted result reflects the hard work from every team member – from parents and carers, to the staff and leadership team within the school and our relationships and partnerships in the local community.

“I would also like to thank Greenwood Academies Trust for the wonderful support they have provided us with. We look forward to building on our success.”

The support and guidance of Greenwood Academies Trust was described in the report as “instrumental” especially regarding staff development.

Chief Executive of Greenwood Academies Trust Wayne Norrie said: “They have created a community which provides high-quality and diverse learning opportunities for their pupils. Every member of staff goes above and beyond to support the children, young people and their families. It is always a pleasure to visit the academy and see the children at work.

“As a Trust we are committed to providing a rich curriculum which prepares pupils for successful futures, I am delighted to see this is firmly embedded at Skegness Junior Academy, and that their achievements have been recognised so emphatically by Ofsted.”
