Mystery of Stamford Christmas card sent every year since 1960

This story is over

A former patient at Stamford Hospital has been sending an anonymous Christmas card to the hospital for the last 57 years.

The patient was so pleased with his treatment at the hospital that he’s now been keeping the tradition since 1960, but no one knows who he is.

Back in 1960, the Exeter Ward was an all male ward, so staff know the patient is male.

The postal mark is from South East Anglia Mail Centre, in Chelmsford, Essex, but staff have no way of tracking the card.

Sue Brooks, matron at Stamford Hospital said: “It would be great to find who is still so grateful after all these years.

“His gratitude has spanned over 57 years and it would be so lovely to add to the already growing history about this hospital.”

“This has been a great mystery for staff at Stamford Hospital since 1960 who are eager to find out the mystery sender of the Christmas card so they too can say thank you and Merry Christmas.”
