Revised plans for Grantham multiplex cinema unanimously approved by councillors

Revised plans for a five-screen cinema in the centre of Grantham have been unanimously approved by councillors.

Councillors gave the go-ahead for the plans on land off St Catherine’s Road at a South Kesteven District Council development control committee meeting on Tuesday, July 25.

The new complex will now include:

  • Five screen cinema
  • Two restaurant units on the ground floor
  • Leisure/office space
  • Associated landscaping

Previous plans for the site included a six screen cinema, with four new screens and the refurbishment and overcladding of two existing screens and a restaurant with office space above.

Changes to these plans include:

  • A smaller building footprint and amendments to the internal layout and elevations.
  • The cinema entrance has been moved from St Catherine’s Road to the north-west corner of the site to ensure footfall past the restaurant units is maximised. This has meant an adjustment of the cinema foyer level. The foyer level is at a higher point on the site than the previous application. This has resulted in the roof level of the cinema being higher than the previous application.
  • The number of screens is reduced by one and the overall number of seats has come down from 1025 to 705.
