Jailed ram raider fails to have sentence cut

This story is over

A Holbeach man jailed last year for carrying out ram raids in the county has failed to have his sentence reduced on appeal.

Shane Boyton, 38, was jailed for five years and four months for commercial burglaries and theft after being convicted at Lincoln Crown Court in August 2016.

One of the raids saw Boyton and an accomplice steal goods worth around £10,000 after using a van to ram raid the premises – causing £6,000 worth of damage in the process.

Boyton challenged his total sentence at the Appeal Court in London, arguing it was far too harsh and ought to be cut.

But Judge Gregory Dickinson QC noted Boyton’s “appalling” previous record of crime.

The judge dismissed the appeal, describing the case as “wholly without merit”.
