Cordon in place after body found in Scunthorpe

Police have cordoned off a street in Scunthorpe after a body was found during investigations into a suspected assault.

Humberside Police officers were called to an area of Mary Street in the town at 2.05am on Tuesday, July 4 with reports that a man sustained serious injuries.

A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. Police say his injuries are serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

Whilst officers were on the scene, the body of another man was found nearby.

An investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances.

Police vehicles have been parked on streets off Marys Street including Doncaster Road and Henry Street and a section of the road has been blocked to traffic and pedestrians.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “Anyone with information that would help with our enquiries should call the non-emergency number 101 quoting log 36 of July 4 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
