A former Scunthorpe Lions Club president has helped raise £1,000 for a new clinic room at Scunthorpe Hospital as thanks for treating his wife who was diagnosed with cancer.

Roy Mee donated the money to Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust on October 27, which will help the trust set up a clinic room in the hospital to be used by patients for check-ups and wound care.

He said:

“My wife Jenny was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and when people are given the news and going through treatment it’s devastating so any help we can give to those people going through that is worthwhile.”

Maxine Woolin, Macmillan clinical nurse specialist, said: “We don’t have a specific treatment room for this but it’s something that would really benefit our patients.

“We’ve got the space for it but it needs turning into a clinical environment with the right equipment and that’s what we hope this money can go towards.”
