Pensioner charged with cruelty as part of abuse allegations at former children’s home

A Boston pensioner is one of eight men to have been charged in connection with historical abuse allegations at a former children’s home.

David Fox, 74, of Abbey Road, Boston, has been charged with one count of child cruelty dating back to 1989.

Seven other men have been charged as part of the West Midlands Police investigation into allegations of child abuse at Wisteria Lodge in Coventry between 1981 and 1997.

The home, which was situated in Earlsdon Avenue South, was demolished in 2009.

The eight men, who all worked at the former home, have been charged with a total of 29 offences including sexual, physical and emotional assault involving a total of 15 children.

Detective Inspector Wes Martin, who is leading the investigation, said: “These charges follow a long investigation by my officers, who have worked closely with the local authority and partners.

“Anyone who has been the victim of abuse, no matter how long ago, can contact police on 101 and report their concerns.”

All are due to appear at Coventry Magistrates’ Court on October 26.
