Infamous Rooney family behind Lincolnshire slavery ring jailed for nearly 80 years

Members of a notorious Lincolnshire traveller family have been handed jail sentences totalling almost 80 years for running a modern-day slavery camp.

Sentencing of the Rooney family based at Drinsey Nook west of Lincoln took place at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, September 12.

The longest jail term handed down by Judge Timothy Spencer QC was 15 years and nine months.

In total, the family was jailed for 79 years and seven months.

Patrick Rooney

Patrick Rooney, 31, of Drinsey Nook, Saxilby near Lincoln, was jailed for 15 years and nine months.

Patrick’s twin John Rooney, 31, of Drinsey Nook was also jailed for 15 years and six months.

Martin Rooney

Martin Rooney, 57, and of Drinsey Nook, was described as the ‘head of the family’. He was sentenced to 10 years and nine months in prison.

Bridget Rooney

Courts heard Bridget Rooney, 55, and of Drinsey Nook, was the ‘matriarch’ of the family. She was put behind bars for seven years.
