Road closures announced for Tour of Britain stage in North Lincolnshire

Road closures have been announced for stage three of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain in North Lincolnshire on Tuesday, September 5.

Elite cyclists from across the globe will take on a 172-kilometre stage, starting from the 300-acre estate of Normanby Hall Country Park and finishing in Scunthorpe near Central Park.

Around 200,000 spectators are expected to attend.

The race starts at Normanby Hall Country Park at 11am.

The B1430 Thealby Lane and West Halton Hill will be closed from A1077 in the direction of Thealby and Coleby from 7am until 12 noon.

Access will be maintained for residents.

In Flixborough, Stather Road, High Street and Lodge Lane will be closed between First Avenue and Normanby Road in the direction of Normanby Road only, from 7am to 12 noon. Access will be maintained for Flixborough residents.

As the race travels along the A161 at junction two of the M180 around 12.10pm, and across the exits for Barrow (B1206) and Barton (A1077) of the A15 around 2.40pm and 2.55pm, the exit slips roads will be closed in both directions so that traffic does not build up on the road.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times along the route.

For the rest of the race, there will be a rolling road block. This means that between 15 and 20 minutes before the cyclists come through, police motorcyclists will be closing the road and clearing it of traffic.

Once the race has passed, the road will be open as normal. No one section of the route should be shut for more than 20 to 30 minutes.

The race will finish on the A18 Kingsway opposite Central Park in Scunthorpe.

As a result, the A18 Kingsway will be closed from Berkley Circle to the Queensway roundabout from 4am to 8pm.

There will be no access to the Kingsway from Church Lane, Brumby Wood Lane (east and west), Glover Road or either roundabout.

Kingsway residents will still be able to access their homes at all times.

North Lincolnshire Council leader Rob Waltham said: “We’ve managed to keep our road closures to a minimum to avoid unnecessary disruption on race day but we apologise for any inconvenience these closures will cause.

“We’re encouraging residents to be aware and plan their journeys so they don’t get caught up.

“Hosting the Tour of Britain is an excellent opportunity for North Lincolnshire to showcase our area on a national stage and we want it to run as smoothly as possible.

“We’re expecting hundreds of thousands of visitors to come to our spectator-friendly stage, providing a welcome boost to our local economy and employment.”
