Man charged after rooftop standoff with police

A fugitive who took to the roof of a house in Grimsby before being arrested by police has been charged with several offences.

Declan Carr, 20, and of Elliston Street, Cleethorpes, has been charged with fraud, possession in a public place of a large knife and using or threatening the use of unlawful violence following the disturbance on Rutland Street.

He was also charged with unconnected offences.

Superintendent Ed Cook, operational commander for Grimsby, said: “The local police are well aware of the recent footage on TV about the East Marsh area, and my message is clear. The East Marsh is full of decent, law-abiding people and we will step in to protect them.

“This result shows that we are taking what is happening seriously, and follows a number of other significant arrests and operations in the East Marsh.

“More are planned shortly and I have made sure that police patrols will be stepped up in the East Marsh in the coming days and weeks and promise that the public will see and feel a difference.

“We are listening to your concerns and we intend to act.”
