Rescue operation: Pictures show scale of A1 crash near Newark

Dramatic pictures have emerged of a crash which has closed the A1 in both directions.

As previously reported, the incident happened at around 7.55am on the northbound carriageway, where several vehicles were involved, including a lorry.

The A1 at Newark remains closed in both directions and diversions are in place.

Police have said that a rescue operation is in place as a person is trapped in the wreckage.

The pictures show that a lorry overturned as a result of the crash, with a car ending up in a ditch on the side of the road.

Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance also attended the scene.

Traffic is very busy around Newark as a result of the crash

Inspector Simon Heads, head of the Regional Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “At the moment this is still a rescue operation and the fire service is working to extricate a casualty trapped in the wreckage.

“We’re appealing for any eyewitnesses to the collision to get in contact with us.

“We’re keen to hear from anyone who was travelling on the A1 southbound at the time who happened to have a dash cam that captured the collision.”
