A collapsed sewer has created a sinkhole in the middle of a busy road in Spalding.
The sinkhole on Winsover Road near the level crossing was reported at around 8am on Wednesday, December 14 as an “urgent defect” to Lincolnshire County Council.
Both Anglian Water and a Highways Officer from the county council have visited the sinkhole and have cordoned the area off for the time being.
A spokesperson for Lincolnshire County Council told Lincolnshire Reporter: “Anglian Water are on site in Spalding investigating a problem on Winsover Road.
“A highways officer has been on site and has liaised with Anglian Water.”
An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “Our teams are currently on site at Winsover Road in Spalding where there has been a collapsed sewer near the level crossing.
“Our priority is to make the area safe for local traffic and pedestrians while we work with Network Rail to plan how to undertake the necessary repairs due to the proximity to the railway line.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience this causes. Our teams will be working to complete the repairs and get things back to normal as quickly as possible. We would like to thank road users for their patience while this urgent repair work is completed.”
