‘Youths in hoodies’ spotted near scene of deliberate grassland fire in Cleethorpes

This story is over

Officers investigating a deliberate fire in Cleethorpes are appealing for witnesses to come forward, as they work to track down those responsible for the arson.

Youths wearing hooded tops were seen in the area at the time of the fire, which was started in grass close to Buck Beck in Cleethorpes Country Park at around 8pm on Friday, August 2.

Humberside Fire and Rescue crews were called to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire.

Sergeant Steve Peck said: “It’s likely those responsible for starting the fires were seen by people walking in the area and we would urge anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously, or starting a fire, to get in touch.”

Humberside Fire and Rescue Community Safety Advocate Carl Turner said: “Deliberate fires affect communities by adversely impacting on the reputation and image of the area.

“Lighting fires deliberately can cost lives – either as a result of the fire getting out of control, or by diverting our resources away from other emergency calls.”
