Former Lincolnshire business owner fined for piling waste six metres high

This story is over

A former Lincolnshire business owner has been forced to pay £1,397 after breaking planning rules.

Kevin Thompson, of Scotter Road, Scunthorpe, and the former owner of Thompson Skip Hire, was fined after he failed to explain breaches of planning permission relating to his site on Summergangs Lane in Gainsbrough.

During an investigation of the site in February 2015, it was discovered that waste was being piled up to a height of six metres – twice the permitted maximum.

A planning contravention notice was issued by Lincolnshire County Council, but Thompson failed to respond with the necessary information.

As a result he was prosecuted and convicted in his absence at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court.

Thompson was fined £770, plus a victim surcharge of £77.

In addition, costs of £550 were awarded to Lincolnshire County Council, making a total of £1,397.

Councillor Colin Davie, Executive Member for Planning, said: “We want to make it clear that when rules are broken without a reasonable excuse, we will take action.

“I hope this result will make anyone else who’s tempted to try their luck think twice.”
